WebAuthn was mid active development. The specs been changed, updated and rewritten, and browsers been only supporting an experiemental version of it. Right now that the API’s are stable, companies realise that it’s a good time to start working on adoption of the WebAuthn/FIDO2 API’s, hence the progress of publishing servers, articles, etc
